Ever since I built a sissy bar and mounted my light I wasn't overly happy with the wiring. But it did the job and worked for the Doomsday Run 2012. After the run I was looking for cloth covered wiring and in OZ it either didn't exist or was too expensive. So what do you do?
Enter buck fifty shoe laces. Picked up these ones from Woolies, they come in all kinds of colours.
You can get a few different styles too, including batman print, you want the ones that are like hollow tubes.
I picked brown and black ones. I didn't end up using these ones on the
sissy bar but they will find there way on my bike somewhere.
So next what you do is cut off the plastic end bits (called Aglets
apparently) In the centre of the shoe lace there will be a length of
string running from end to end.Gently pull a small amount out each end.
(See picture if that makes no sense)
Now strip the insulation off the end of the wire you
want to run through the centre. Tie a knot in the cotton, put the copper
wire through the knot and twist it on itself. (Again refer to the pic)
So I forgot the take a picture of this bit, its pretty
straight forward tho. Pull the cotton from the opposite end and the wire
will travel up through the centre of the lace and out. I melted the end
of the lace to stop it fraying and put some heat shrink over it for
good measure.
Easy as that. Now you have that cool "period correct" look for a whole buck fifty
Experiment a little, I ended up using a plain jane
black lace running 2 wires through it for my tail light. Turned out
pretty stella.
